A “Grade Pending” sign is visible at the Red Rooster Harlem restaurant on Lenox Ave in Harlem. The Department of Health issued 31 violation points(C rating) on a June 22, 2011 inspection. A “Grade Pending” sign is on display because restaurants are entitled to a hearing to challenge citations issued by the Department, and successful challenges may result in a change to the score and/or grade issued at the time of the inspection
Critical sanitary violations(as detailed on the DOH site) included: 1) Raw, cooked or prepared food is adulterated, contaminated, cross-contaminated, or not discarded in accordance with HACCP plan. 2) Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided. 3) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
