When I moved to Harlem back in 2006, there was only one mom and pop store close to me fully dedicated to offering organic grocerys on every level and that was Organic Forever on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 111th and 112th Street. Ten years later, they still are the only small business that sells organic products, until now! If you walk by the store, there are big signs that says they’re closing.
Not sure of the reasons why Organic Forever is closing, but it’s unfortunate and another sign of the times that everything continues to change in Harlem at rapid speed!
I suspected the answer and heard from a reliable source that it is of course a rent hike.
Organic Forever is closing because the building has been sold. The new owners have almost completely emptied the building of tenants – only a few are left. Rumor has it that the building will be demolished and a ten story building will happen.
Hi,
I’m a journalism student at NYU and I would love to talk to you and get your reaction on the closing of Organic Forever. I’ve left my e-mail, I hope to get in touch with you in the coming days.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline
That sucks, they always had a few things I couldn’t find elsewhere. I worry about the future of independent business in Harlem.
