Harlem’s Atomic Wings Featured in the NY Post

By HarlemGal

ent0aWe couldn’t help notice the big smiles and feature article in Wednesday’s edition of the NY Post. The Post reported how there is a surge of wings happening in New York City – chicken wings that is! The article also notes Atomic Wings and their expansion in Harlem. HarlemCondoLife blogged about their new place on 113th and Frederick Douglas Blvd. a few weeks back; and have sat down to munch on their wings. They get a thumbs up from us! It’s so good we better go in tomorrow and put in our Super Bowl order!

Congrats to Atomic Wings owners Hugh Webb and James Brown on their media coverage in the Post!

UPDATE: MODSquad Grand Opening-December 12-13th

I went by MODSquad for the Grand Opening this past weekend to check it out…and let me tell you the place is very nice inside! And the owners, who are Harlemites, are super cool!  Here’s the lowdown on some of the features they will be offering after they reopen early next year:  co-op hours use of their  shop as your garage, bike repair classes in January, bike fittings, and bike rentals in the Spring.  And my favorite, the bike bar – pictured below – where you can talk directly one-on-one with their bike experts. Go see for yourself!

Is FDB becoming the restaurant row in Harlem?

Nov 19, 2008 @ 20:03
By HarlemGal

For the last couple of years (let’s say three, which isn’t that long), there have been a number of new cafes, restaurants, and bars that have opened up along Frederick Douglass Blvd between 111th and 119th Street. If our memory serves correctly, first it was Society Cafe Lounge. Soon followed Melba’s. After that we believe it was Zoma, Tribal Spears Gallery and Cafe, Nectar Wine Bar and Cafe 2112. Recently, 67 Orange opened, which we hear their Grand Opening is December 5. And now, Svntn Below, which according to Uptown Flavor is open for business!

We like that all these new places have opened up and are very excited that our community continues to grow in the dining/bar/lounges sector!

To answer the question posed, with about eight new places in less than three years opening, this blogger predicts FDB is on track to become the restaurant row of Harlem!

If we left out a new business, please tell us!

Exxon Out, BP in at Central Park North/FDB Gas Station

Nov 10, 2008 @ 14:04
img_0150What has typically been an Exxon gas station for many years, has apparently changed ownership to BP.  This was very evident recently with a worker changing the sign during a sunny day in Harlem at 111th and Frederick Douglass.

As reported on HCL, a new (or relocated) bike shop has arrived on FDB between 114th and 115th St. Their sign is up and it looks sharp!  I am sure their web site will soon follow, click here!

Hip, Unique Shopping@Harlem’s Bebenoir

Oct 4, 2008 @ 18:28
Recently, I was walking to the Rite Aid on Frederick Douglass & 117th….and all of a sudden a lovely window display caught my eye.  What got me to stop was a display that had mannequins featuring very cool clothing for both men and women.  It was so attractive I walked in and all of a sudden I was greeted by the nicest sales person.  He quickly said ” you have not been in here before…yes?  Let me show you around”  I confessed and said this was my first visit, but that I lived in Harlem.  I then quickly asked what is the name of this place. Bebenoir the sales person responded.

After this pleasant encounter, I gravitated to the men’s t-shirts that have these masks or faces in different colors printed on solid tees.  At the bottom of the t-shirt there are Ethiopian characters.  It’s just the coolest looking tee.  What else could I do after a helpful rep assisted me and attractive tees in front of me…..make the green one mine.  If you like tees that have African character offered in Harlem – Bebenoir is the place!
