The wonderful and dedicated teachers over at Harlem Yoga Studio gave us the heads up recently that they have a new hOMe on West 125th Street. If you recall, they use to be located at 119th and Lenox Ave in a nice size corner brownstone. Fast forward to today, Harlem Yoga Studio classes are now on the third floor of 20110511-111445.jpg
44 West 125 Street between Lenox and Fifth Ave. This new space offers plenty of room for yogis to practice their sun salutations, warrior pose or downward dog, etc. right in the heart of Harlem.

In addition to the move, Harlem Yoga Studio is updating their class schedule to include new adult classes, and many more Vinyasa, YogaTone, Prenatal, Full Figured Yoga, Donation Only Community Classes, Pilates, Kids and Family classes, and more! Check out their website for exact class details.

And in honor of the new location, Harlem Yoga Studio is offering FREE Yoga outside starting this coming Saturday, May 14. Every Saturday from May 14 through September at 11 AM Harlem Yoga Studio will offer a FREE one hour yoga class at the Target East Harlem Community Garden located at 415-417 East 117th Street, between First and Pleasant Aves.

That’s not all, starting at the end of this month, Harlem Yoga Studio will be offering FREE yoga in Central Park at Harlem Meer. This sounds cool and awesome way to practice yoga!

Overall, there are plenty of options in Harlem for us Harlemites to either continue or start yoga practice!

By HarlemGal
“Look out! Here comes the Spiderman! Can he swing from a thread. Take a look overhead (or in this video). Hey, there goes the Spiderman [in Harlem],”
See the coolest video of Spiderman, or shall we say the stunt person who plays him in film, swinging under the viaduct in West Harlem, i.e. West 133rd and 12th Avenue.
The Spiderman film crew was spotted in West Harlem May 3rd and we hear the film crew might be in the same area tonight, May 5th!

It’s Cinco de Mayo! Happy Cinco de Mayo Harlemites! Where will you be celebrating the Mexican holiday for 2011?

I still hear East 116th Street in Spanish Harlem will have a party atmosphere even though their annual Cinco de Mayo Festival passed. Check out the review by The Village Voice.

Remember this part of the City is Harlem’s booming Mexican population. So if you want to be authentic with your celebration of May 5th, no need to go far. Head on over to Spanish Harlem to celebrate. You might just see this Latina celebrating there!

The students at PS 161 Pedro Albizu Campos Middle in Harlem received a nice surprise yesterday (May 3rd). Mrs. Jay Z, also known as Beyonce, made a surprise visit to the Harlem school located at 499 West 133rd Street. The visit was a part of the “Let’s Move” promotion, which is the First Lady Michelle Obama’s youth fitness campaign.

A group of students were filming their rendition of Beyonce’s “Move Your Body” video when Beyonce made her way out on to the floor of the school’s gymnasium and surprised the group of students. In addition to dancing with the students, Beyonce posed for photographs with them. Very nice! See more coverage at JustJared.com.

Harlem featured in UK’s Financial Times

May 2, 2011 @ 7:40
By HarlemGal
I always say “one can’t swing a bat lately without hitting the word “Harlem.” The Financial Times, the UK-based business paper, has now featured Harlem in their April 30 House and Home edition. Not too long the FT featured Red Rooster as well. This article quickly goes over Harlem’s rich history, mentions how crime is basically much better throughout New York City especially Harlem in the last ten years, and Harlem’s upswing in major change began back in 2004/2005. The article goes on to interview two homebuyers, one who bought a brownstone for under $1 million and the other who purchased a penthouse apartment on Frederick Douglass Blvd. Both homeowners talked about how much space one could receive in a home in Harlem and within budget. However, one homeowner stressed why they came to Harlem: “I like the sense of diversity I’ve found here.”
