I was asked recently, where is the best place in Harlem to purchase Halloween costumes for adults and children? Off the top of my head, the place that comes to mind is King Party Center at 66 West 125th Street, between Malcolm X Blvd and Fifth Avenue. They seem to have a large selection of costumes for a reasonable price. Can our readers recommend any other places in Harlem?

I really thought all the publicity around our Target in East Harlem was sort of over. Wrong. It seems that this store will now be the pit stop for celebrities who have to push their product while they are attending to their press junkets in the Big Apple. Taylor Swift made an appearance at our Target in East Harlem on Monday, October 25. Shocker! This had to be her first time in Harlem. I was very surprised to see this news fall into my inbox! After blog posting about Harlem Meer’s Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail
, I received a special request. There are a select group of Harlemites in Spanish Harlem that are having a small Halloween street party from 3 PM to 7 PM on October 31 for the kids (and adults) on their particular block. They are asking for assistance in helping entertain Harlem kids for Halloween. If HarlemCondoLife readers know of a magician, palm reader, balloon folder, face painter, etc., send a message to djjaffe@gmail.com or call 917-912-4466 with recommendations.
Ideally, what these locals are looking for is to have entertainer(s) stop by and bring some smiles to cute Harlem faces on their block in Harlem. Over the weekend a reader asked HarlemCondoLife “what’s up with Frizzante in Harlem? The doors have been shut for a few days?” I wondered the same thing!
I made a few calls and here’s the latest! Frizzante, located at 2168 Frederick Blvd., is NOT closed for good. They are fixing a few repairs according to a source from Meridiana, an Italian restaurant on the Upper Westside and the same owners of Frizzante. They hope to reopen in a couple of days!
Whew! Glad to gear it! I love the food at Frizzante and their Happy Hour is good as well! Hope to go back soon once they reopen!

The immaculate Fall weather was the perfect backdrop for the 2010 Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail located at Harlem Meer. Plus all the costumes present made the day that much brighter. I saw little dinosaurs, tigers, lions, pirates and ninjas, along with several lady bugs, a few princesses, butterflies and the occasional witch. The event was so much fun. I could not resist taking photo after photo…

Don’t forget…Central Park’s annual Halloween Parade and Pumpkin Sail is happening today at Harlem Meer and the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (inside the Park on 110th St between Fifth and Lenox Aves). It starts at 4 PM today, October 24.
We attended last year and it was so much fun. We adored seeing all the little ones dressed up in their favorite Halloween costumes.

Okay…so the church located at 371-373 Manhattan Avenue, which we first told you about in 2009, is back on the market for around the same price it was listed in the first business quarter of 2010. But what’s confusing is that some are reporting/blogging that the church in South Harlem is represented by Corcoran. Hmm. My online research shows that this property is with Prudential Douglass Elliman and that the broker is Brian Phillips, who I believe is based right here in Harlem. I don’t think Corcoran is involved any more. Maybe Brian will step forward and tell us if Prudential DE has taken the lead with the property?
There is something else worth mentioning about this property. Back in April, we blogged about how the mosque on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 115th and 116th Street was moving to 371-373 Manhattan Avenue. We now know that deal fell through. However, a reader left us a message saying they were looking at an apartment in The Livmor, one overlooking the mosque, and that the realtor commented the mosque was sold…”over a month ago.” If that is in fact true, we have questions: where is the congregation of the mosque going, who bought the space at 2136 Frederick Douglass Blvd and what is going to be built there? Answers anyone!

Do you remember the song by Ben King called “There is a rose in Spanish Harlem?” It is an oldie, but goodie hit! We thought of this song recently when we passed by the flower stand on the northwest corner of East 116th Street and Lexington Avenue this past weekend.
This particular flower stand has an abundance of fresh roses, sunflowers, daisies and mixed flowers for sale-more so than other Bodega stands in Harlem. The flowers at this stand are all beautifully stacked and grouped accordingly where it makes the street-walker stop, look and buy. That’s what happened to us. We ended up buying two dozen colored roses for $10 and a bouquet of daisies for $5! What a deal! 
This stand has to be one of the least expensive places with gorgeous product in the area. We wanted to buy more flowers, such as the mustard colored sunflowers for $5 or mixed flowers for $8! However, we only had two sets of hands. We’re going back though. After our two dozen roses finish blooming!
As the song goes, there is a rose in Spanish Harlem beautiful and inexpensive, and it’s on 116th Street and Lexington Avenue.
