East Harlem scores G-O-A-L with rooftop soccer field

Let the soccer games begin! And get even more excited by reading this wonderful article about how  P.S. 72 Lexington Academy in East Harlem received a roof top soccer field! MSNBC.com reported this past week that Manchester City Football Club and diplomats from the UAE partnered together to help create a new soccer field on the roof of P.S. 72 Lexington Academy in East Harlem. The dedication for the new field happened this past week.

Way to go P.S. 72 in East Harlem! Congrats to them on their new soccer field!

White T-Shirts Are Fashion and Function in Harlem says New York Times

I am so out of it on fashion in Harlem, but thank goodness I checked The Times this morning. They are reporting that white t-shirts are the in thing at the moment. The New York Times strolled Apollo Theater, the Studio Museum and the shopping strip, 125th Stree, in Harlem recently and reports that “in Harlem wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and red sneakers” is sick! Take a look at the video!

Harlem Link Charter School benefits from online recruitment drive

In April, EveryBlock.com partnered with DonorsChoose.org to help support public schools in New York City and four other cities. One of the schools to benefit from this campaign is  located in Harlem.

Close to $2000 has been raised for NYC and part of the proceeds will go to Harlem Link Charter School. Click here to see the projects and schools supported.

And if you’re wondering how this money was raised? It was simple. For every new user who signed up for EveryBlock.com in April, they donated $1 to a DonorsChoose.org classroom fundraiser in that person’s city.  Now that’s putting social networking to good use! Congrats to Harlem Link Charter School and EveryBlock!

Top 50 things to do with kids in Harlem

20120305-191221.jpg
According to Mommy Poppins, there is a boat load of fun and interesting activity to do in Harlem with kids! So much so that they have done the heavily lifting for us and compiled a list of the Top 50 Things to do with kids in Harlem!

The site mentions a ton of activity to do in Harlem from shaking your bon, bon at the Sundae Sermon in Morningside Park, which right now is happening at El Museo in Spanish Harlem until the weather warms up. They also mention participating in family concerts at Kidberry, taking family yoga classes at Land Yoga, watching concerts at Richard Rogers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park, ice skating at Lasker Rink in Central Park North, bowling at Harlem Lanes, explore Hamilton Grange and more. The list is 50 lines long. Take a look.

The only other items I would have added is renting bikes at MODSquad Cycles and biking in the northern part of Central Park and attending the annual Pumpkin Sail at Harlem Meer. Aside from that, Mommy Poppins covered plenty of things to do in Harlem. What do you think? Are there other activities that should be on that list? If so, tell us!
