There are several places in Harlem that are holding election night parties tonight, November 6! Click on the links below to get more details. And have a great time tonight. The establishments are:

Melba’s Restaurant on 114th Street and FDB

Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at 515 Lenox Avenue. Schomburg’s 2012 Presidential Election Watch Party will feature special guest commentators: Khalil Gibran Muhammad, Grace Aneiza Ali, Monifa Bandele, William Jelani Cobb, Michaela angela Davis, and Dorian Warren.

See photos of long lines at gas stations along 145th Street in Harlem

Soon after I blogged about the Harlem gas station on 110th Street and FDB posting a sign saying “no gas,” comments have come strolling in on Facebook and via email. At 9 pm this evening (November 1), a reader sent in pictures of what’s happening at the gas stations along 145th Street between Lenox Avenue and FDB. According to the reader, the lines for gas are four to five blocks long and for one Shell station near Pathmark at 145th Street, the line of cars extend around the corner to FDB then down three blocks to 142 Street. The reader also states police are detouring traffic across 145th St. because of the long gas lines.

For several days now, the main stream media has been reporting that gas supplies are limited and can’t be delivered due to the port of NYC being closed. The result is long gas lines everywhere. And people are also buying fuel for generators. Take a look at the photos the reader sent in. And a big thank to the reader for keeping us informed on the gas situation!

Reminder: East Harlem Harvest Festival October 27 from noon to 6 pm

It’s Thursday and I am already thinking about the weekend. I am planning on heading on over to the eastside of Harlem, 116th Street and Park Avenue, for its first Harlem Harvest Festival. The event celebrates East Harlem’s restaurants, bakeries and vendors of La Marqueta public market.

Several restaurants will be participating where one can purchase small bites from Agua Fresca, Kiosk, Hot Bread Kitchen, Soul Fixins’, Creole Restaurant and Music Supper Club, Evelyn’s Kitchen, Luca Bosco, Corbin Hill Farm, Spaha Cafe, Tanto Sabor, El Kallejon Botanas Bar, East Harlem Cafe, Lloyd’s Carrot Cake, Coco Le Vu and Nafi’s Hot Pepper Condiments.

There will be Beer Flights available in the Beer Garden at Urban Garden Center and there will be a Make Your Own Brew Workshop hosted by Celeste Beatty, the founder of Sugar Hill Beer of the Harlem Brewing Company. The Children’s Zone at Urban Garden Center will have a cooking demo by Culinaria Festival, face painting, pumpkin carving and the Cutie Patooties workshop. Dimitri Gatanas of Urban Garden Center will be hosting garden related workshops like How to Build Your Own Terrarium and “Plants in Suspension” Dimitri’s version of the Japanese art of Kokedama.

Hope you can join in on the fun. The event starts at noon October 27 and will end at 6 pm. So plenty of time to head on over to La Marqueta at East 116th Street and Park Avenue. See you there!
