Annual Harlem Food & Drink Event set for June 8

The Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance will hold its fifth annual Food & Drink Boulevard event along Harlem’s Restaurant Row on Frederick Douglass Boulevard from 110th to 124th Streets June 8. 

Participating bars and restaurants include 67 Orange Street, Angel of Harlem, Harlem Burger Co., Harlem Food Bar, Harlem Tavern, Hop House Harlem, Jado Sushi, L Lounge, Lido, LoLo’s Seafood Shack, Mess Hall, Row House, Silvana, Streetbird and Vinateria. 

The Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance is also partnering with Uber to provide free rides for up to $20 to ticket holders who are new users of the app, and will provide ticket holders who are new and existing users with $20 off their first UberPOOLride.

Tickets to Food & Drink Boulevard will be sold online, starting May 16, at a discounted rate of two tickets for $10 until 11:59 p.m. on June 7, 2016, and will be available for purchase in person on the day of the event, June 8, 2016, for $10 each at Harlem Tavern, 2153 Frederick Douglass Boulevard on the corner of 116th Street.

See The Black & White Show at Aloft Hotel in Harlem, May 6 opening

The Black & White Show opens on May 6 at the Aloft Hotel in Harlem featuring mixed media, paintings, pen & ink, and photography – all in black and white only. The artists work in code and nuances, parities and disparities using textures, lines, contrast and movement to explore ideas and theories.

Exhibiting artists for The Black & White Show will be Andre Woolery, Kennedy Yanko, LeRone B. Wilson, Marcus Hunter, Michael Ricardo Andreev, Sorin Abraham, Stan Squirewell, Tomo Mori, Walter Lobyn Hamilton, & Yaron Dotan.

The show runs from May 6 to June 30 at the Aloft Hotel on Frederick Douglass Blvd. and 124th Street.

Aloft Hotel in Harlem wins TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence

Harlem’s first hotel in a half century has been recognized for its service. Aloft Harlem, located at 2296 Frederick Douglass Blvd. between 123rd and 124th Street, recently announced that it was awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. This accolade is given to establishments that consistently and credibly achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, which recognizes businesses worldwide and is one of the largest travel sites on the internet.

Aloft Harlem has been open since December 2009 with the  majority of the hotel’s employees from Harlem and already its performance is reaching the top percentile in the industry. The prestigious award only rewards about 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor.

Aloft Harlem Hotel to feature Karl Karni-Bain in solo exhibition

West Coast mixed media artist Karl Karni-Bain (BAI) will be featured in a solo exhibition for the monthly art exhibition series at the Aloft Harlem Hotel, June 21-July 18. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public with a cash bar in the hotel lounge.

The exhibition will feature recent painting by the neo-primitive inspired artist that includes work from his mask series and semi-abstract nudes. The exhibition series at Aloft Harlem features an exhibition by a solo artist each month and is located at 2296 Frederick Douglass Blvd, between 123rd and 124th Street in Harlem.
