Harlem makes its debut on YouTube search stories

As a blogger, I am constantly on the internet using various search terms to help with blog posts about Harlem. I decided to take some of those search terms I use frequently about Harlem and apply them to YouTube’s search stories, which allows users to create their very own Google commercial on a topic of their choice. After several hours of reviewing a ton of search terms about Harlem, I narrowed them down. The result a video titled: Your Gateway to Harlem! Check it out below!

UPDATE: Beautiful bike messengers expected back in Harlem

Aug 16, 2010 @ 7:30

By HarlemGal

Back in July, we told you about how the lead actors of Premium Rush, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Dania Ramirez (Entourage), were spotted filming in Harlem. They have been filming throughout the City (and a good portion in Harlem) most of the summer. Well, it looks like the cast of Premium Rush will be back again in Harlem filming…this Thursday. There were signs stapled over the weekend on every tree or taped to every pole along 110th Street, starting from Columbus Avenue all the way to Broadway. The red papered signs  say Premium Rush will be filming from 11 AM to 11 PM on August 19th. Columbia Pictures gave locals five days notice. I wonder why?

So if you want to see some filming action and actors playing bike messengers at the base of Harlem, head on over there. But please, if a production assistant does not let you get close to the set, we encourage you to walk away and tell them to have a nice day. Take the high road and leave the violent altercations to those folks located you know where (wink, wink)!

See what some Harlemites had to say.  You may recognize some of the places in the video that we have featured as well, such as Mojo, Swing, N Boutique, Make My Cake and Frederick Douglass Circle and more! Take a look by clicking here!

Beautiful bike messengers spotted in Harlem

Jul 20, 2010 @ 23:51

If you’ve seen these two individuals in the photos below biking around Harlem, don’t hire them or give them a package to deliver. First, they are way too cute and second, these are actually the lead actors for Premium Rush, a film about a bike messenger who picks up a package at Columbia University. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Dania Ramirez (“Heroes”) star in the film and have been on set in Harlem the past two days.

On Monday, they were filming along West 110th Street from Manhattan Ave to Amsterdam Avenue. Today, Tuesday, they were spotted at 145th Street and Broadway. I think it’s fair to say the director picked some hills that stretch far for biking scenes. Some of us have biked around Harlem and can attest our hills can give you a workout. I wonder if Joseph and Dania have experienced what we have?

Premium Rush is expected to be in theaters in 2011!

LeBron campaign brings out video preview of the upcoming Red Rooster in Harlem

Jun 19, 2010 @ 15:33

By HarlemGal

We had no idea that there was interior video footage of Marcus Samuelsson’s Red Rooster restaurant out there in the internet universe until a reader informed us about. Thank you to DJ Jaffe for the heads up. Much appreciated!

Apparently, our celebrity chef  from Harlem made a video pitch to James LeBron, like almost every other NY celebrity has done already, to come to the Big Apple and play basketball. To entice LeBron, Samuelsson is giving LeBron, and us, a sneak peak of Red Rooster and a guaranteed table at the Lenox Ave restaurant.  Check out the video here as well on NYC.gov.

Honestly, I do not see what the big deal is about begging this athlete to come to NYC, but I assume it has to do with cha-ching/moo-la/dinero to the City.

Well, since everyone is making a pitch for James LeBron, HarlemCondoLife.com will join in, but take it a step further! Here we go:

HEY KING JAMES, TAKE ALL THOSE CELEBRITIES’ ADVICE AND COME TO THE GREATEST CITY ON THE PLANET, NEW YORK CITY, TO PLAY BASKETBALL. AND IF YOU DO MOVE TO NYC, WE THINK YOU SHOULD MOVE TO HARLEM AND BUY A BIG-O-GIANT PENTHOUSE/CONDO OR A GORGEOUS, MILLION DOLLAR TOWNHOUSE. THESE ARE ITEMS FIT FOR A KING. YA, THAT’S THE TICKET!

By moving to Harlem, we think this will definitely set you apart from the  NYC athlete pack. You could move right next to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar! What do you think? Do you like our idea? C’mon move to Harlem!  If you need more reasons why, just ask Marcus Samuelsson.

Harlem Lanes is a ‘strike’ full of fun

It’s mid week and you’re wondering what you should do for fun on a Thursday? We were asking ourselves that same question recently. We solved it with one simple idea: Let’s go bowling! And that we did! We headed to Harlem Lanes located at 2116 7th Avenue (between 125th and 126th Street) on a Thursday night recently and had a blast!
There are a ton of things to do in Harlem, however we wanted something different, yet playful. Harlem Lanes was the perfect solution. It is a two level, 24 lane bowling alley and entertainment complex with a bar and cafe.
For a couple of hours, we bowled two games at $6 dollars each. Our shoe rental was $5 bucks a piece. Drinks were around $10 and very tasty I might add. They put whip cream on their piña coladas. Yum.
While at Harlem Lanes, we laughed, danced a little to the music being played from the jukebox-at least I did, made fun of our bowling skills and at times watched the other people in the lanes close by who were great at bowling. One cannot help but stare at those who seem to get a strike at every turn. It’s a natural tendency…right? Then you ask yourself, why can’t I do that?
We did all this for very little and had a great time! Plus we walked home from there. We did not have to trek back uptown! However, we stress going on a week night. There were plenty of lanes available, limited crowds; and not much of a wait for drinks.
So if you want to do something fun, different and close to home on a week night, check out the first bowling alley to open in Harlem since the eighties. Harlem Lanes is the perfect to do during the week!

Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood on set in Harlem for HBO’s Mildred Pierce

Jun 2, 2010 @ 16:13

By HarlemGal

We heard online that Kate Winslet was going to be in Harlem June 1 filming scenes for HBO’s Mildred Pierce…and turns out she was in Harlem! We also found out that Evan Rachel Wood was in Harlem yesterday as well. They were both in the Mount Morris Historic District, which is located between 120th to 124th Street from Lenox Avenue to Madison Avenue .

In my view, perfect location to capture some gorgeous brownstones for the background shots for Mildred Pierce. I will definitely be watching Kate and Evan Rachel on HBO when the film comes out. In the mean time, check out the photos of Kate and Evan Rachel in Harlem! Cool!
