Drew Barrymore dines at Rao’s in East Harlem? Get outta here!

According to Popsugar.com, actress Drew Barrymore headed uptown to Harlem last night (Jan 26), along with her fiancé Will Kopelman, to dine at Rao’s with friends! Oh la la! As most of us know, to get into Rao’s one needs a reservation, which is hard to get, or one needs to get in with a member to eat there. Clearly, Hollywood has an open-ended reservation at Rao’s or Drew hangs with folks who have a membership. Must be nice!

A reader has let us know that the old spot where Just Wingin It use to be in Harlem, has been turned upside down and a new eating place has arisen. It’s called Harlem Savour of Seafood and they are open for customers to come in and order-seven days a week. Apparently the place opened this past weekend.

I looked for them online and so far their website is not up, and I can’t seem to find them on Facebook or Twitter. Hmm? I’m sure they’ll be up and online soon.

In the meantime, here is a copy of their menu incase you want to try them out now. Hope you can see the menu!

Melba’s Restaurant located in Harlem to be on ABC’s The View this week

I just read on Facebook that the fabulous woman behind Melba’s Restaurant, i.e. Melba, will be on The View this coming Thursday, January 26 at 11 AM. That is so awesome! I think the show should be called, that day, the HarlemGal’s show! Why? Two awesome ladies, who reside in Harlem, will be sitting side by side, Sherri Shepard and Melba! Can’t wait to watch The View this Thursday!

My photos of President Obama appearing at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem

I had the privilege and delight of attending a fundraiser to re-elect President Obama at Harlem’s Apollo Theater (read actual tweets here). The event was filled with great entertainment from Lin-Manuel Miranda MCing, to India Arie performing, to the Rev. Al Green blessing us with his singing sermon. And yes, POTUS Obama sang too, i.e. Let’s Stay Together. Here are a few photos from the Jan. 19 event at the Apollo. Hope you like them! Enjoy!

Marcos Leatherlab Shoe Repair coming to Harlem’s Frederick Douglass Blvd

Looks like one business person is going to mix it up on Harlem’s Frederick Douglass Blvd by not open up a dining establishment, but by opening up a shoe repair store. Marcos Leatherlab has paper signage up on one of the retail spaces in the Gateway Tower/Condos saying they are coming soon! How soon? I don’t know. Hopefully in 2012.

I checked out Marcos Leatherlab’s website and it says they are a long time family shoe repair business from the Bronx.

I think this is a nice change to the area and a much-needed service. It is not a diner, which some people have left comments here asking for, but for those that need shoe repair close by this should help. What do you think? Do we need a cobbler in this part of Harlem?

More tickets available to see President Obama at Harlem’s famous Apollo Theater, January 19

I just checked out the Facebook page of Harlem4Obama and its says there are more $100 tickets available to the January 19 event, which is The Obama Victory Fund Concert. Go to this link here and get your $100, $300 or $5000 tickets. They just added more this evening.

I am going with another fellow Harlemite. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I don’t want to miss it! Hope you will join me in seeing President Obama at the Apollo!

Dear Harlem: If we could only clone Martin Luther King Jr.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Day today, all I can think about are a few things, such as why do all the good ones have to die young?, what would MLK think of our leaders today?, and if only we could clone Mr. King? My answer to these posed questions. They just don’t make him [leaders] like MLK anymore. Oh, how we need leaders like MLK. I miss that about America. We just don’t see leaders on a national stage who can move and inspire us anymore. Hopefully that will change one day. I am hopeful.
