A new business appears to be moving into the old commercial space where Bier International in Harlem used to be located at 2099 Frederick Douglass Blvd. There are signs posted to the glass window saying…now hiring. And most of the branding for Bier has been removed from the space. Looks like the new business might be called Cantina. Guessing from the email listed!
Is the Cantina on Adam Clayton Powell moving over one avenue? Or is this going to be an entirely new place? Hmm. If you know any details, drop us a line in the comments section!
Looking to try acupuncture or need an acupuncturist close by in Harlem? There is a new clinic called Harlem Chi Community Acupuncture and it’s located at 360 West 125th Street, 2nd Floor. Harlem Chi Community Acupuncture had their grand opening on April 12.
Harlem Chi’s mission is to make acupuncture and Chinese Medicine accessible to more people and to reveal the power of this medicine to help with a variety of acute and chronic health issues-particularly when it is practiced as part of a general maintenance routine.
Acupuncture is administered via the insertion of very tiny, sterile, single-use disposable filiform (thin like thread) needles into specific points on the body that stimulate the body’s self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms. It can effectively treat both acute and chronic conditions, from stress reduction, aches/pain, women’s health (menopause, PMS, irregular menses, infertility, etc.), digestive issues, post chemo/radiation therapy, to sports injuries and sports enhancement.
To learn more about Harlem Chi, visit their website. Residents can also go online to make an appointment.
Harlem parents, have you checked out Tribeca Pediatrics, which recently opened in Harlem on 114th Street and Frederick Douglass? I have taken my daughter twice already, seen all doctors and both experiences have been very good so far. I plan to continue to take my daughter there. On a recent visit, I collected the bios of the two doctors/pediatricians that are working at the Harlem branch of Tribeca Pediatrics. I am passing the bios along for those interested. Also, here is the phone number and email as well: 646-666-8248, email@example.com.
Looks like a Pilates studio is coming to Harlem! And it’s called Balanced Pilates! A long time reader of HarlemGal Inc sent in this photo yesterday saying the photo was taken in front of a building that’s being renovated on 123rd Street between Frederick Douglass Blvd. and St. Nicholas Avenue.
As soon as we have more details about this new Harlem business, we will pass it along! Happy Monday!

Back in March 2013, HarlemGal Inc blogged that Tribeca Pediatrics will be opening up a branch in Harlem on the corner of 114th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd. They are moving into the old 99 cents store space, which has now started to be transformed. That was very visible today. When walking by, pedestrians can see a new glass store front.
Tribeca Pediatrics signed a 10-year, 2,500-square-foot lease at 2111 Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem. On their website, it says coming soon and lists two individuals, who will be staffing the Harlem office. Go here for more information about the Harlem branch of Tribeca Pediatrics.

A bit of Harlem is featured in the recent edition of Yoga Journal. A photo of Land Yoga instructor and local Harlem Gal Dana Elyse Tarasavage is in Yoga Journal for their July/August edition. Yoga Journal asks readers for their On Location segment to send in their favorite pose photos from travels around the world. A photo of Tarasavage was sent in of her in Mysore, India striking a difficult yoga pose right there on the street among Indians and their favorite and sacred animal, the cow.
If you haven’t met or taken one of Tarasavage’s classes at Land Yoga in Harlem, you’re missing out. I have personally taken her class many times and enjoy it very much! Dana Elyse Tarasavage is at Harlem’s Land Yoga Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday morning. Land Yoga is located on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 114th and 115th Street.
