There has been a boat load of news coverage about Lady Gaga filming her latest music video called Marry the Night in Harlem. If you walked by the corner of Frederick Douglass Blvd. and 117th Street tonight (October 12), you may have noticed Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo were dining at Lido Italian Restaurant and Bar in Harlem? Well, sort of. They were actually in character for their upcoming movie called Thanks for Sharing. The entire scene was a dining out scene at Lido Harlem. Hope they mention their location in the script!
This is such a big compliment for Lido Harlem. They haven’t even been open for a year and now they have big name movie stars filming in their restaurant. The film scouts clearly liked the design and layout of the restaurant or they would not have chosen it. When you take pictures of Lido, it is very photogenic. The place comes out vibrant in pictures.
I had a quick exchange with Mark Ruffalo as I stopped him to take a photo. I told him the food at Lido Harlem is excellent. He said, “yeah, I’ll have to tell my wife about it.” You do that Mark! There is some great dining out places in Harlem and Lido Harlem is one of them!

Bono didn’t come to Harlem to sing Angel of Harlem. He came for fashion and to visit the hottest restaurant in the City, Red Rooster. Bono and his wife Ali Hewson celebrated her Edun’s spring women’s show and the launch of a men’s marketing campaign with a dinner at Harlem’s Red Rooster restaurant this past Sunday. Our beloved Harlem is featured bright and big again in the media, but this time in the UK’s travel section of The Independent. According to the article the reporter/ photographer visited Harlem recently and took direction from Thelma Golden, the Director of Studio Museum Harlem, on what to see in Harlem.
Per Golden’s instructions, Chris Coplans stayed at The Aloft Harlem and he raves about it in the article. He also went to the Apollo Theater, El Museo del Barrio, Studio Museum Harlem, and more. Golden encouraged the reporter to visit the Duke Ellington sculpture and to try Senegalese food at Les Ambassades.
What’s interesting about this article is the reporter covered a lot of Harlem ground-from East to West. He also gives Lenox Avenue big props by saying, “If 125th St is the traditional Harlem, then Lenox Avenue between 125th and 126th is very much the emerging “New Harlem”, with an arty vibe and “Village” sidewalk culture.”

Harlem resident and The View co-host is no longer a single Harlem gal. Sherri Shepherd, who lives in a beautiful brownstone in Harlem, wed boyfriend Lamar Sally this past weekend. She shared details of the days leading up to her wedding day, August 13, on twitter. Sherri even teased her followers, which this blog site is one of them, about what her wedding dress might look like before the big day!
According to a celeb blog site, Sherri Shepherd eventually donned a custom Rivini gown to marry boyfriend Lamar and only one gossip magazine has the pics.
Sherri looks great in the photo! Congrats to Sherri and Lamar! And hope to see the newlyweds in Harlem soon!

Vanity Fair announced their 2011 International Best-Dressed List today and our very own Harlemite made the list of best dressed men, Marcus Samuelsson. Marcus is in good company on the coveted list. Justin Timberlake is named, along with actor Colin Firth, Armie Hammer who starred in The Social Network, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos and more. See complete list below!
Marcus is having a very good year! Along with the Vanity Fair Best Dressed List, his Harlem restaurant on Lenox Avenue is not even a year old and it’s a happening place. The New York Times has blessed him with several raving reviews on him, such as chef profiles, restaurant reviews and where to hang uptown, i.e. Red Rooster. New York Magazine lists his place on their website in the Most Buzzed About Restaurant in Manhattan. There are several awards he has won this past year. The list goes on and on. Oh, and of course it does not hurt that he has a stunning wife by his side, Maya!
I last caught up with Marcus at the Macy’s Food Truck event this past Sunday to kick off Harlem Week! And come to think of it, he was looking pretty stylish at that event while out there serving catfish sandwiches with sweet potato fries! Can you blame him for looking good! He knows people are watching. He might as well give us all something else to look at other than his delicious food!

There is has been absolutely no drips or drabs of information about why Harlem’s St. Nick’s Pub, located at 773 St. Nicholas Ave.,  has been closed. It’s been like this for awhile…until now. According to NearSay.com, they are reporting there was an email from the NYC Health Department’s press secretary noting that St. Nick’s Pub was inspected and ordered to close back on February 16 for operating with an expired permit. Furthermore, the article states St. Nick’s owner met with a representative from the health department soon after in which the owner was informed “of outstanding fines for past violations that needed to be paid in order to reopen the establishment.”
Given this information, I guess the fines have not been paid or St. Nick’s would be open. Â I sure hope this gets resolved soon. I want St. Nick’s Pub to be around for many more years to come!
A follower on twitter reminded HarlemGal that Nike’s Boulevard Ice Pop Store is open for business in Harlem. It has been open for about a week in a half now at the corner of 133rd Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd. The Nike store offers customers the opportunity to go in and experience a refrigerator feel, pick from a selection of ice treats and maybe design yourself some new basketball shoes. Interesting concept and very much in line with Nike’s impressive creativity! This chica can go for the ice treats, but I don’t plan on getting me any basketball shoes any time soon.
