Ribbon cutting ceremony August 28 for Playground 123 in Harlem’s Morningside Park

The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation has scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony in Harlem tomorrow, Aug. 28 at 11:30am to celebrate the renovation of Playground 123 in Morningside Park. Interested participants should stop by.

According to DNAinfo New York, “the playground, in Morningside Park at 123rd Street near Morningside Avenue, was rundown and had little more than asphalt pavement and chain-link fences when construction began in August 2012. After $3.7 million in renovations, the playground reopened [in July 2013] with new swing sets, including adaptive swings for disabled children, as well as castle-like play equipment, a basketball court, a playhouse and sprinklers.”

Construction moving along for upcoming Tribeca Pediatrics in Harlem

Back in March 2013, HarlemGal Inc blogged that Tribeca Pediatrics will beĀ opening up a branch in Harlem on the corner of 114th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd. They are moving into the old 99 cents store space, which has now started to be transformed. That was very visible today. When walking by, pedestriansĀ can see a new glass store front.

Tribeca Pediatrics signed a 10-year, 2,500-square-foot lease at 2111 Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem. On their website, it says coming soon and lists two individuals, who will be staffing the Harlem office. Go here for more information about the Harlem branch of Tribeca Pediatrics.

Is Kidberry in Harlem closing?

IMG_7191

HarlemGal Inc loves blogging about all things positive related to Harlem. However, there are going to be some instances where the Harlem news is not all roses. For example, this blog is hearing some sad news on and offline about Kidberry, a children’s education center located on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd between 122nd and 123rdĀ Street. The rumor mill, which HarlemGal Inc is practically 90 percent sure its not a rumor based on sources, is that Kidberry in Harlem is closing its doors for good. Done. Finished, etc.

Reasons Ā for the closing have not surfaced…yet. Our guess is that will happen in due time. As soon as we know why Kidberry in Harlem is closing, we will pass that information along.

Now for the big questions. Where will Harlem parents take their infants and toddlers for educational classes? Is there some place else close by? Thoughts? HarlemGal Inc would love to hear your feedback? Chime in…
