Annual Harlem Food & Drink Event set for June 8

The Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance will hold its fifth annual Food & Drink Boulevard event along Harlem’s Restaurant Row on Frederick Douglass Boulevard from 110th to 124th Streets June 8. 

Participating bars and restaurants include 67 Orange Street, Angel of Harlem, Harlem Burger Co., Harlem Food Bar, Harlem Tavern, Hop House Harlem, Jado Sushi, L Lounge, Lido, LoLo’s Seafood Shack, Mess Hall, Row House, Silvana, Streetbird and Vinateria. 

The Frederick Douglass Boulevard Alliance is also partnering with Uber to provide free rides for up to $20 to ticket holders who are new users of the app, and will provide ticket holders who are new and existing users with $20 off their first UberPOOLride.

Tickets to Food & Drink Boulevard will be sold online, starting May 16, at a discounted rate of two tickets for $10 until 11:59 p.m. on June 7, 2016, and will be available for purchase in person on the day of the event, June 8, 2016, for $10 each at Harlem Tavern, 2153 Frederick Douglass Boulevard on the corner of 116th Street.

Live Periscope Tour of FLUX Art Fair in Harlem May 2

Can’t make it to one of the May art events in Harlem by FLUX Art Fair. Then log on to Periscope May 2 at 10 am! NYC Parks joins the Marcus Garvey Park Alliance for a special preview tour of the FLUX Art Fair in Marcus Garvey Park “live” on Periscope, a social app for streaming and watching live video broadcasts. Founder of FLUX Leanne Stella will join to answer questions and lead the tour.

Throughout the month of May, FLUX artists will present performances, large-scale installations, and subtle artist interventions throughout Upper Manhattan, including in Marcus Garvey Park, Eugene McCabe Field, Harlem Art Park, along Fifth and Lenox Avenues, and Harlem Grown farm on 127th Street.

Attend Community Planning Workshop for CitiBike Share Expansion into Harlem

CitiBike is expand into Harlem and you have the opportunity to voice your opinion! NYC Department of Transportation’s Bike Share Program has scheduled a Community Planning Workshop for Harlem CB10 on Wednesday, November 18th. Attached is a flyer for reference. Also, here is a link for community members that cannot attend, but can still voice their views!

The plywood is down at Row House Harlem, opening soon at 115th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd, and we have a glimpse of inside! Take a look!

The Harlem eatery is aiming to create “a chic subterranean look in the heart of Harlem’s restaurant row.” Have they done it?

Academy Award Winner Lupita Nyong’o to be in Harlem, October 20

If you were looking to attend the free event at MIST Harlem featuring fashion darling and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, forget about it. Drats! It’s sold out. Nyong’o plans to visit Harlem October 20th to plug her new play downtown at The Public Theater called Eclipsed!

Oh well! Wonder if or where Lupita will dine in Harlem? Any guesses?

Harlem Harvest Festival happening today, October 10

Harlem Harvest Festival (presented by Harlem Park to Park) takes place today from 11am to 4pm at 116th Street and St. Nicholas. 

There is something for everyone at this one-day fall festival featuring food, farmer’s market, artisan products, family and kid friendly activities food/baking competitions, classes and live performances by local Harlem businesses and community members. See full schedule here:

· Activities/Stage/Live Performances – Bikram Yoga East Harlem class at 11:30am. Main stage: Whole Foods Market live cooking demonstrations 12:45 & 1:45pm, performances by Harlem Swing Dance Society at 3:15 and Majica Latina Jazz Group at 3:30 pm; DJ Stormin’ Norman & Sundae Sermon hosting. 

· Kids Corner – Chloe the Yogi Children’s Yoga at 12-12:30pm; Arts and crafts, pumpkin carving, face painting, NYPD rock climbing wall and The Bubble Man 

· A ‘Taste of Harlem’ featuring Harlem restaurants and retailers offering seasonal tasting menus for purchase such as Babbalucci, 67 Orange Street, Sexy Taco, Seasoned Vegan, New Harlem Besame, Settepani, Sol Cacao

· Cook-off (1pm)– Annual Cooking competition showcasing culinary dishes prepared by Harlem residents – categories are: 

– Healthy Soul food dish (vegetarian or meat)

– Healthy side dish using produce found at farmers markets 

· Bake-off (2pm) – Annual Baking competition showcasing baked desserts prepared by Harlem residents. Categories include: Best Pie, Best Cake, Best Cookies/Brownies, Best Cupcakes

· A Farmer’s Market & Artisanal Food Fair featuring fresh vegetables, produce (pumpkins, fruit, etc.) from New York farms as well as food from artisanal food vendors and wineries/breweries available for purchase. 

· Whole Foods Market Artisanal Vendor Review 12-3pm – local Harlem artisanal vendors will have an opportunity to present their products to Whole Foods Market foragers/buyers for the new store coming to Harlem.

Harlem Flo Boutique to close

Quickly scanning through Facebook, we learn today that Harlem Flo, located on Frederick Douglass Blvd and 122nd, will close! Stefan Handl, the owner of Harlem Flo, announced it today on social media saying “Harlem Flo will close after a successful eight year run and not sure what the future holds.” 

Handl does not explain in his post why his shop will close in a little over a month. Either way, very disappointing to hear.

As more information becomes available, we will pass along.

This blog just learned that on Sunday August 23, Bibi Salon at 2220 Frederick Douglass will be hosting a Pop-Up shop featuring kids clothes, shoes, & accessories from the children’s boutique, ‘Yummy Yummie Goodness’. The pop-up shop will run from 10am-4pm. See you there!

Cedric French Bistro becomes Bunz Harlem

Walking along St. Nick yesterday, I noticed Cedric French Bistro signage was gone. In place of it was a new name called Bunz Harlem! 

I went online to find more info. Apparently, Cedric Lecendre, the owner of former Cedric’s, has changed things up! According to his Facebook page, Lecendre has said cie la vie to offering the French menu at his dining space on 119th and St. Nicholas and will now be offering gourmet burgers and specialty cocktails. Check out the menu below! And tell us what you think of the change!
