How many more dining places will open on Frederick Douglass Blvd in Harlem, the area between 110th and 125th Street dubbed restaurant row by HarlemGal? Well, apparently one, or two or three more Harlem businesses will open in this part of Harlem.

115 Restaurant Corp has filed a liquor license for the commercial space right across from Made En Harlem, which we’ve learned from DNAinfo will be a taqueria place. 115 Restaurant Corp will be located on the southeast corner of 115th and FDB. It’s in the building where apartments are renting for around $4k a month.

The only info we can find at the moment on 115 Restaurant Corp is the name is registered to someone who lives in Harlem. That’s all we know. As soon as we know more, we will pass along the info! And if you have any insight, feel free to chime in!

And Jeff Mays from DNAinfo reported recently that The Chipped Cup and Lenox Coffee will be expanding to Harlem’s restaurant row with The Mess Hall and Bearded Lady Espresso. These Harlem businesses will open near 118th and FDB!

So the answer is yes! More places can and are opening on FDB between 110th and 125th Street. However, it’s starting to get crowded out there!

It’s grand opening weekend at Park 112 in Harlem

Indulge in African teas at Serengeti Teas & Spices in Harlem, now open on Frederick Douglass Blvd

20130923-083647.jpg

20130923-083709.jpg
At the recommendation of a longtime reader of HarlemGal Inc., I stopped by Serengeti Teas & Spices in Harlem yesterday, which opened a week ago at 2292 Frederick Douglass Blvd at 123rd Street. A big thanks for the recommendation. My visit to Serengeti in Harlem did not disappoint. And as one Facebook friend said, “it’s a must stop on FDB! The attention to details and explanations are great!” I couldn’t agree more.

Serengeti in Harlem offers all the tea imaginable, loose or bagged, strong or light, from the continent of Africa. And the staff is willing and ready to provide any guest a tutorial on the variety of teas offered. Plus Serengeti offers samples to taste if one is not sure what to purchase. I owned up to being tea illiterate and the staff person who assisted me (and by the way I did not disclose I was a local blogger) was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in all the teas offered. This staff person walked me through every inch of the products available. Overall, my experience at Serengeti in Harlem was completely delightful! I ended up purchasing two canisters of tea, the Bassa Blood Orange Organic Tea for $12 and Berry Rooibo’s 20 Tea Bags for $10.

If you’re walking along Harlem’s restaurant row, aka FDB, HarlemGal Inc recommends a quick stop by Serengeti Teas & Spices in Harlem at 123rd and FDB. They offer pastries and coffee as well. Serengeti in Harlem is open from 10 am to 9 pm. A website will be available at a later date.

Pop star Katy Perry dines on Harlem’s restaurant row, Melba’s Restaurant

20130828-112132.jpg
What a week so far for Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem! On Monday night, Christine Quinn, NYC mayoral candidate, stopped by for a women’s event. Last night, Tuesday, singing star Katy Perry and her posse dined in Harlem at Melba’s on 114th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd.

Ironically, Tuesday nights at Melba’s is open mic night. Did Katy Perry sing at Melba’s? According to our source, who sent us the info along with photos, say Ms. Perry “enjoyed a delicious meal and the entertainment after still relaxing from all the hectic festivities from the MTV VMAs.”

Melba’s Restaurant in Harlem is not only known for her down to earth comfort food, but also for its celebrity sightings such as: Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Tamar and Vince. Clearly, celebrities love coming to Harlem and places, such as Melba’s. Harlem is a great getaway for celebs that want to venture uptown and get some privacy versus the downtown madness.
