Whole Foods Market opening in Harlem July 21, 125th & Lenox Avenue

My kids and I were at Harlem Eat Up today. While strolling around, literally in our Bugaboo, we learned today that Whole Foods Market is opening up their Harlem store July 21, 2017. The two nice gentlemen working their booth informed us when we asked. However, there was no need to ask. There was a sign to the left of them that announced the date! See pic below.

I wonder whose going to check out the new Whole Foods uptown when it opens? I’m curious to see if they plan on offering the same kind of merchandise/products as a downtown store. We will soon find out!

The store will be located at 125th Street and Lenox Avenue! Right there by the 2/3 subway line!

Is Melba’s restaurant in Harlem open or closed?

Another Harlem blog posted a question yesterday to their site asking: Has Melba’s on 114th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd shuttered? As of this evening, HarlemGal has the the answer. It’s no!

This blog walked by there this evening and all the lights were on and people were inside!

What prompted the questions around the status of Melba Wilson’s ten year old restaurant on Harlem’s restaurant row is that someone snapped a photo of that infamous sticker from the City slapped on the restaurant’s grey metal rolling gate. Ouch!

Hopefully, going forward, this type of uncertainty about whether Melba’s restaurant is opened or closed is a thing of the past. Fingers are crossed!

Now she is one of the remaining 11 finalists on NBC’s The Voice. TONIGHT, November 21 Wé McDonald will be competing live!

Every vote counts and she needs our help to win! Harlem, let’s get out the vote! Tune in tonight on Channel 4! Check local listings.2016_thevoice_s11_wemcdonald_bio_headshots_1455x1455_cc

Former Harlem mosque turning into luxury rentals

Does anyone remember this Harlem space on Frederick Douglass Blvd between 115 and 116th Street? It used to be a place of worship, a mosque. Now there are signs up on the scaffold that says the space is being turned into luxury rentals! Great, right?

This space probably would have been more ideal for affordable housing since it’s right in the thick of where all the change is happening. Is anyone surprised? Probably not.

How many luxury this and that do we need for this area? Oh I forgot, I’m in New York! There’s no such thing as affordable housing!

Have a great weekend!

Awesome Actor Denzel Washington dines in Harlem at The Park 112

Golden Globe, Tony, Academy Award Actor Denzel Washington decided to head uptown this past weekend for some good grub in Harlem. Where did he go? To Harlem restaurant row’s The Park 112. Not a bad choice, Denzel! We hear he ordered the Brick Chicken and Branzino dish, but no drinks! Hey, when you’re on Broadway performing in Raisin in the Sun, ya gotta eat and drink well.

Let’s not forget that Denzel Washington is familiar with the streets of Harlem. A few years back, he was in Central Harlem filming American Gangster.

Other celebs, models and well-known athletes have made their way up to Harlem to The Park 112 as well, such as Kobe Bryant, Jessica White, and Mekhai Phifer of ER. Again, don’t take our word. Go to their Instagram account! All the evidence is there!

Harlem parents, have you checked out Tribeca Pediatrics, which recently opened in Harlem on 114th Street and Frederick Douglass? A reader from Bozeman, Montana/Jakarta, Indonesia sent in a unique story tip to share. How does a musician get to study with Maria from Ahn Trio? If you are between the ages of 12-18, you will need to audition during the Harlem School of the Arts Prep Auditions, which will take place May 5-9. The individual(s) chosen will be able to study-tuition free with Maria for a whole year!

Tweet of the Week: Visit Grandmas Place in Harlem

20130207-133210.jpg
This weeks Tweet of the Week belongs to Grandmas Place in Harlem and @Schopgirl. Recently, I posted a photo on Instagram of Grandmas Place, located at 84 West 120th Street in Harlem, saying “there’s nothing better than Grandmas Place” to shop for great gifts for kids! Out of the blue, the owners daughter of Grandmas Place tweets back “that’s my mom! 40 plus years in education, literacy, and passion for toys and books.”

This is a classic example that when you tweet something out about Harlem, you are bound to come across family! Luv it!

To shop at Grandmas Place, take the 2/3 subway to either 116th or 125th Street. They’re located right behind Settepani!

And join us on Twitter to receive the latest information about Harlem!
