Joe’s Crab Shack will open its first NYC store in Harlem today, line to enter started last night

20130730-083226.jpg
There is a long line at 126th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd in Harlem-and it’s not for concert tickets to a show at The Apollo. Harlemites started lining up last night to be one of the first customers to dine at Joe’s Crab Shack in Harlem, which opens at 11 am today, July 30.

20130730-083032.jpgThe long line at Joe’s Crab Shack started last night. Why? The first 100 fans that dine at Joe’s on opening day will win free crab for a year. In addition to prizes for the first 100, all guests who dine at the restaurant on opening day can enter to win additional prizes.

I stopped by the new Joe’s last night for their VIP party in Harlem. The place is  very nice and huge! It’s a 10,000-square-foot restaurant on the second level at 2349 Frederick Douglass Blvd. The new Joe’s Crab Shack can accommodate 380 guests and will employ more than 200 team members from the Harlem area, according to Councilwoman Inez Dickens, who gave the figures at last night’s party.

20130730-083314.jpgI also learned an interesting tidbit about Joe’s Crab Shack. I had asked about their presence and experience in urban areas. After all, Harlem is their first location in New York City. I was pointed to a recent study conducted by New Media Metrics, which recently surveyed 3,400 African-Americans ages 13 to 64 about brand-related attachment. Joe’s Crab Shack was one of the brands in the restaurant category that made “the biggest gains in terms of positive awareness among black consumers.” Here’s an article about that study.

As for the food, unfortunately I cannot comment on the food at Joe’s Crab Shack. I arrived to the VIP party late and missed the goodies. However, I did have the opportunity to meet the executive chef and he stressed “the Harlem location will offer new summer menu promotion items, including the Corona Beach Bake and Coastal Wave Steampot featuring a wide range of lobster and crab options finished with a Corona chile-lime bath.”

I do plan to check out Joe’s Crab Shack in Harlem soon, but not today because I have this gut feeling they are going to get hit with customers like a tidal wave. Hope they came with enough crab!

Ready for Joe’s Crab Shack to open in Harlem? It’s happening July 30

Shopping
Harlem is getting another dining option for what seems like the gazillionth time! So many new Harlem restaurants opening up lately. HarlemGal Inc has heard directly from the PR firm representing Joe’s Crab Shack, which is a Houston, Texas-based company, and they have confirmed the Harlem branch of Joe’s Crab Shack will be opening to the public on July 30. There were a lot of dates floating around online about the grand opening, but HarlemGal Inc has the lowdown and the official opening for the public is July 30.

The new restaurant is opening at 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

Harlem Tavern, the two-year old restaurant and bar at 116th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd., is ready to take their business model uptown to the Heights! It’s been well-publicized. Yesterday, Harlem Tavern unveiled on their Harlem-focused Facebook page a photo showing signage for their second uptown location called Heights Tavern, which will be at Broadway and 164th Street.

It was also announced on their page that Heights Tavern will be having “an open call this Wednesday-Friday (June 26-28) from 1-4 pm” at this new location.

Congratulations to Harlem Tavern owners, Gareth Fagan and Stephen and Sheri Daly, on their expansion. Clearly, the Harlem Tavern business model has returned a big ROI proving uptown Manhattan is the place to be!

Savann Turkish Restaurant to open June 17, new Harlem restaurant is at 2280 Frederick Douglass Blvd

At the end of 2012, HarlemGal Inc first told you about a new Turkish restaurant coming to Harlem called Savann at 2280 Frederick Douglass Blvd between 122nd and 123rd Street. A reader, who is a very reliable source, has given us the heads up, along with photos to prove that Savann will be opening this Monday, June 17 to the public. Savann is holding a soft launch over the weekend, we hear for the residents of 2280 FDB, however as usual, one has to be invited to attend.

After this weekend, Harlemites will have another new restaurant to check out. Stop by Savann Turkish Restaurant in Harlem starting June 17. Take a look at the menu below!

Destiny Sandwich & Juice Bar in Harlem opens with soft launch, stop by for a Harlem made smoothie

The owners of Destiny Sandwich & Juice Bar, located on Frederick Douglass Blvd. between 116th and 117th Street, tell HarlemGal Inc that they are open for business. We learned about this place back in April!

They started their soft opening over the weekend and will have limited hours for the coming week, 8 am to 8 pm. Limited items will only be available on the menu as well. Once they work out the kinks of being a new business in Harlem, their hours will be from 6 am to 10 pm Monday thru Friday. Then on Saturday and Sunday their hours will be 7 am to 10 pm. See menu here.

Stop on by for a smoothie! See you there!

Douglas Elliman moving down the street in Harlem, real estate office been in Harlem for years

20130531-143122.jpg

20130531-143137.jpg
I wasn’t planning on blogging about Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Harlem moving down the street. However, when another blog writes that “they’re coming to Harlem’s restaurant row,” this die-hard blogger can help but to take the easy opportunity (you know like when someone throws the ball at you and you just have to swing cause it’s so easy) to state the correct facts about a Harlem/chain business.

It is simply not true that Douglas Elliman is coming to Harlem’s restaurant row. Why? Because Douglas Elliman has always been on Frederick Douglass Blvd, aka Harlem’s restaurant row, for several years. Anyone who really knows this area of Harlem would know this!

Douglas Elliman Real Estate tells HarlemGal Inc that they are in the process of moving from their 117th Street and FDB location, which they have been at for years right by Levain Bakery, to 114th Street and FDB where the former Jet Income Tax was located. That’s all that is happening. It has nothing to do with the sign of the real estate industry or coming to FDB. That’s gibberish. Douglass Elliman tells HG that they just decided to change office locations. That is the plan for now.

So there you have it, the correct facts, for those who care or don’t care about Douglas Elliman moving from one space to the other. I really don’t care about the move. But what I do care about is credible blogging, hint, hint.

Harlem Yo! coming to Frederick Douglass Blvd, frozen yogurt, smoothies, shakes to be offered

I was walking along Frederick Douglass Blvd in Harlem this evening (May 10) and noticed new signage was up where the old Posh Paws was located, 2121 FDB. The purplish awning says HarlemYo!, Frozen Yogurt, Burritos, Smoothies, Shakes and Salads. Looks like Harlem’s restaurant row is getting another food/eating out option?
