Bios on Pediatricians at Tribeca Pediatrics Harlem Branch

Harlem parents, have you checked out Tribeca Pediatrics,which recently opened in Harlem on 114th Street and Frederick Douglass? I have taken my daughter twice already, seen all doctors and both experiences have been very good so far.  I plan to continue to take my daughter there. On a recent visit, I collected the bios of the two doctors/pediatricians that are working at the Harlem branch of Tribeca Pediatrics. I am passing the bios along for those interested. The Laundromat Project offering Spring Break art class for Harlem middle school kids April 14-18

Need a kid project for Spring Break? Here’s a suggestion! The Laundromat Project is offering a five-1918445_2334299day art class for Harlem middle-school kids from April 14th to 18th, which is Spring Break for NYC public schools. The art class begins at 9:30 am and runs to 3 pm. During this time, students will learn how to silkscreen and print with linoleum plates, and visit local museums and artist studios.

If you don’t have anything scheduled for your kids during Spring Break, this program is a nice option filled with art making and creative expression.

The deadline to apply was today, but it has been extended to March 24. Interested parents should apply here.

Family theater in Harlem: see The African Drum at The National Black Theater February 9

For African-American History Month, Shadowbox Theater presents The African Drum starting February 9 at The National Black Theater in Harlem. The African Drum is a shadow puppet and people show that teaches some valuable lessons about trusting intuition and not following strangers and so on. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The National Black Theater is located at 2031 Fifth Avenue between 125th and 126th. For more information, click here.

Things to do with kids in Harlem: Jazz Cats for Kids at Silvana Harlem

Save the date of February 22! That’s when Jazz Cats for Kids will take place at Silvana in Harlem at 116th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd. A jazz quartet will be on hand to entertain kids of all ages. The event starts at noon and is hosted by Harlem4Kids and the Musician’s Aid Society.

Silvana will have their full menu available, as well as a few additional kid-friendly items for the crowd. Doors open at 11:30 am.

Purchase tickets here. All tickets ($5/person, children under 2 are free) must be purchased in advance.

The second annual East Harlem Harvest Festival is happening this weekend, October 27, at 116th Street and Park Avenue. The event starts and 10 am and will last until about 6 pm. See full list below of what to expect at this years East Harlem Harvest Festival.

The African-American Day Parade is happening in Harlem tomorrow, September 15

Don’t forget, tomorrow in Harlem is the largest parade in America dedicated to the black community. It’s the African-American Day Parade, which starts at 1 pm and runs along Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd from 111th Street to 136th Street in Harlem. It is a fun event for family, friends and all. See you there.

Ribbon cutting ceremony August 28 for Playground 123 in Harlem’s Morningside Park

The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation has scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony in Harlem tomorrow, Aug. 28 at 11:30am to celebrate the renovation of Playground 123 in Morningside Park. Interested participants should stop by.

According to DNAinfo New York, “the playground, in Morningside Park at 123rd Street near Morningside Avenue, was rundown and had little more than asphalt pavement and chain-link fences when construction began in August 2012. After $3.7 million in renovations, the playground reopened [in July 2013] with new swing sets, including adaptive swings for disabled children, as well as castle-like play equipment, a basketball court, a playhouse and sprinklers.”

Construction moving along for upcoming Tribeca Pediatrics in Harlem

Back in March 2013, HarlemGal Inc blogged that Tribeca Pediatrics will be opening up a branch in Harlem on the corner of 114th Street and Frederick Douglass Blvd. They are moving into the old 99 cents store space, which has now started to be transformed. That was very visible today. When walking by, pedestrians can see a new glass store front.

Tribeca Pediatrics signed a 10-year, 2,500-square-foot lease at 2111 Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem. On their website, it says coming soon and lists two individuals, who will be staffing the Harlem office. Go here for more information about the Harlem branch of Tribeca Pediatrics.
